Best Direct-Drive Wheelbases in 2026: Entry, Mid-Range and High-End Picks

10 min readBy Nightstint Editorial
Last updated:Published:

Three direct-drive wheelbases sorted into entry, mid-range and high-end tiers by torque and features, from their Amazon listings and the makers' pages: rated torque, what ships in the box, mounting and platform support.

Which direct-drive wheelbase should you buy in 2026?

Entry: the MOZA R3 bundle, which MOZA rates at 3.9 Nm peak and which is the only pick here that arrives as a complete PC setup, with a wheel, pedals and a desk clamp in the box. Mid-range: the Thrustmaster T818 Black Edition, a base-only unit that Thrustmaster rates at 10 N·m of constant torque and that drops into the Thrustmaster rim and pedal ecosystem on PC. High-end: the Cooler Master x Simucube 2 Pro, a 25 Nm base with a 22-bit absolute encoder and an 11.1 kg weight by Cooler Master's figure; its listing calls it PC-only and a fit for aluminum profile cockpits. The tiers below are torque and feature tiers; what separates them is how much force the base can produce, how it mounts, and how much of the rest of the rig you still have to supply.

Updated October 2026.

We did not test these products ourselves; this guide is built from Amazon's product listings.

A note on sources

Each pick's manufacturer page was read alongside its Amazon listing: MOZA's R3 bundle page for PC, Thrustmaster's T818 Black Edition page and Cooler Master's page for the Cooler Master x Simucube 2 Pro, with Simucube's own Simucube 2 Pro page as a cross-check. Torque figures are manufacturer ratings; where a source is silent, the table says "not stated".

How the tiers are defined

Torque is the headline, but the box contents decide what you actually have to buy. Both a 3.9 Nm base and a 25 Nm base are direct drive; the makers' rated torque differs. MOZA lists a 15-bit encoder on the R3; Cooler Master lists a 22-bit absolute angle sensor on the Simucube 2 Pro; Thrustmaster does not publish a resolution figure for the T818 Black Edition on the page read.

Then there is the rest of the rig. The MOZA bundle ships with a wheel, two Hall-sensor pedals and a table clamp. No source names a rim or pedals with the T818 Black Edition or the Simucube 2 Pro, so you supply those. If you are starting from nothing, read the first sim racing wheel guide first.

Platform is the last filter: all three are PC products in their listings, none claims PlayStation support, the MOZA listing rules out Xbox for this bundle, and the Cooler Master listing rules out PlayStation and Xbox consoles. If a console matters, check the maker's compatibility list first.

MOZA R3 Racing Wheel and Pedals Bundle (entry)

Per the listing, the bundle is designed for PC users and is not compatible with Xbox. Per the listing, the R3 base delivers 3.9Nm of direct drive power with ultra-low torque ripple, in a compact design. MOZA's own page states the same figure as "Peak Torque: 3.9 Nm" and adds the rest of the base: a 15-bit encoder, limitless wheel rotation, an aviation aluminum alloy housing, 60W rated power, a 1000Hz USB refresh rate and four mounting holes on the bottom.

The wheel is the ES Lite. Per the listing it is an 11-inch round wheel with ISF PU grips, an aluminum alloy rim and 22 customizable buttons, with a quick release system for changing rims. MOZA's page gives the diameter as 280mm, lists 10 RGB LEDs and marks the wheel "Platform: PC Only". The pedals are the SR-P Lite set. Per the listing they are high-strength steel with a high-precision Hall sensor and no clutch, with the space, configuration and curve adjustable. MOZA's page lists a Hall throttle sensor, adjustable spacing and plate height, and output-curve adjustment marked as supported. Per the listing, the table clamp is 5mm-thick CNC machined high-intensity steel, angle-adjustable, and suitable for desktop setups or rigs.

MOZA's page lists the full box contents (base, wheel, pedals, clamp, power adapter, cables, toolkit), with a 24-month warranty on the base body and 12 months on the wheel and pedal bodies. MOZA's FAQ says the bundle is fully compatible with Windows 10/11; the separate Xbox and PC version on MOZA's site is a different product. For a different pedal type, see load-cell pedals.

Thrustmaster T818 Black Edition (mid-range)

Per the listing, the base is capable of delivering 10 N·m of constant torque with no saturation on PC (Windows 10/11). Per the listing, effects sent by the game are reproduced without any filters. Thrustmaster's page says the same thing in its own words: "CONSTANT 10 N·m TORQUE" from a custom-designed motor, "10 N·m of constant torque, with no saturation", and ten force-feedback settings in the My Thrustmaster Panel software on PC.

Thrustmaster's page calls it "a new version of T818" with reinforced connectors and an optimized motor assembly. The listing groups reinforced connectors and an optimized motor under reliability and durability. Per the listing, a customizable front ring of RGB LEDs interacts with the game. Thrustmaster's page describes a hexagon of RGB LEDs reacting to RPM, flag and pit. Thrustmaster calls the quick release aeronautical-grade, with a rim change "in just 5 seconds"; a Quick Release Adapter for older Thrustmaster rims is in the box. Per the listing it is compatible with all Thrustmaster wheel rims, pedal sets and add-ons.

Mounting, per the listing: 4 mounting points for drilling into a cockpit, with the Cockpit Mounting Kit and Desk Mounting Kit sold separately. Thrustmaster lists the base at 7.6 × 8.8 × 7.1 inches and 5 kg, with a 168 W power supply, the Quick Release Adapter kit and cables in the box. There is no rim and no pedal set in that list, and Thrustmaster's page does not state a rotation range or a warranty term.

Cooler Master x Simucube 2 Pro (high-end)

Per the listing, this is a PC-only wheelbase: not compatible with PlayStation or Xbox consoles, with plug-and-play support for iRacing, rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa and Automobilista 2. Per the listing: 25Nm high-torque force feedback, ultra-precise direct drive, low latency. The listing says it is a fit for aluminum profile cockpits and compatible with standard sim racing accessories such as the Simucube Quick Release and pedal sets.

Cooler Master's product page gives the numbers: max torque 25 Nm, a max torque slew rate of 8.0 Nm/ms adjustable from 1 to 8.0 Nm/ms, a 22-bit absolute angle sensor, a high-response direct-drive motor with ultra-low torque ripple, wireless wheel support, a 48 V power supply rated at 360 W with a 450 W peak, 270 × 130 × 130 mm including the quick release and an 11.1 kg base, with the M8 mounting pattern shown in the table.

Simucube's own page for the Simucube 2 Pro repeats the 25 Nm, 8.0 Nm/ms, 22-bit and 11.1 kg figures, names the Simucube Tuner software and lists a 2-year warranty for that model. Simucube's own page says the quick release is sold separately; the Cooler Master listing does not say. Cooler Master's page does not state a warranty term or a platform list, so treat the listing's PC-only line as the compatibility statement and confirm the quick release before ordering a rim. For the tier above this one, the Asetek Invicta review covers a higher-torque base.

Which one should you buy

Entry: the MOZA R3 bundle. The only complete setup of the three, it clamps to a desk, and MOZA publishes 3.9 Nm peak, a 15-bit encoder and a 1000Hz USB rate. PC only; MOZA sells a different bundle for Xbox.

Mid-range: the Thrustmaster T818 Black Edition. Thrustmaster rates it at 10 N·m of constant torque, the listing says game effects are reproduced "without any filters", and it mounts with four points or an optional desk kit. You supply the rim and pedals, the right trade if you already own Thrustmaster ones.

High-end: the Cooler Master x Simucube 2 Pro. 25 Nm, a 22-bit absolute encoder, an adjustable slew rate up to 8.0 Nm/ms and wireless wheel support per Cooler Master, in an 11.1 kg base that the listing calls a fit for aluminum profile cockpits. PC only per the listing. No source names a rim or pedals, and the quick release is the detail to confirm.

FAQ

Which direct-drive wheelbase should a sim racer buy in 2026: entry, mid-range or high-end?

Entry: the MOZA R3 bundle, 3.9 Nm peak per MOZA, complete with wheel, pedals and clamp. Mid-range: the Thrustmaster T818 Black Edition, 10 N·m constant per Thrustmaster, base only. High-end: the Cooler Master x Simucube 2 Pro, 25 Nm per Cooler Master, base only, for a cockpit.

Is 3.9 Nm enough for a first direct-drive wheel?

MOZA rates the R3 at 3.9 Nm peak and sells it as a complete bundle with wheel, pedals and clamp. It is the lowest torque here; the step to 10 N·m or 25 Nm also means buying your own rim, pedals and mounting.

Do these wheelbases work on PlayStation or Xbox?

Their listings name PC. The MOZA listing rules out Xbox for the bundle, the Cooler Master listing rules out PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and the T818 listing names no console. Check the maker's compatibility list before buying for a console.

What else do you need with the T818 Black Edition or the Simucube 2 Pro?

No source lists a rim or pedals with either base. Thrustmaster's box has a Quick Release Adapter but no rim or pedals. For the Simucube 2 Pro, Simucube's own page says the quick release is sold separately and the Cooler Master listing does not say.

Can you mount these on a desk?

The MOZA bundle's table clamp is angle-adjustable per the listing. The Desk Mounting Kit for the T818 is sold separately, per the listing. Cooler Master lists four M8 holes on a 145 mm pattern. The listing says it fits aluminum profile cockpits. No desk mount appears in either source.
